According to the National Center for Wildlife Development, bats are the only mammals capable of flying, as they have a skin membrane that covers the forelimbs in the form of a wing.

The center said through an infographic it published today: Bats in the Kingdom are divided into two parts: the first is large bats, also called fruit bats, as they feed on fruit trees, and there are 3 species, and the second is small bats, and they depend on feeding on insects, and there are 27 species.

The center added that most fruit-eating bats live on trees, some in caves and at the bottom of dams, while insect-eating bats live in caves, abandoned houses and rock crevices.

Bats are spread in most regions of the Kingdom, from the desert of the Empty Quarter to the forests in the southwestern region, and they are also spread in most of the protected areas such as the Raida Reserve, the Uruq Bani Ma`arid Reserve and the Elk Reserve.

He continued, fruit-eating bats play important roles in spreading and fertilizing the seeds of wild plants feeding on their fruits, while insect-eating bats are environmentally friendly, as they reduce the numbers of insects harmful to humans and crops.
