Officials with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency said that at least 15 houses on the Tanimbar Islands and two schools were damaged in the quake, while one person was injured.

The Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said that the earthquake occurred at 2:47 am local time at a depth of 130 km, and at least four aftershocks were monitored after the strong quake.
The earthquake was felt by residents in some parts of northern Australia, where deep earthquakes tend to cause less surface damage than shallow tremors, but are felt more widely.
It is noteworthy that Indonesia is frequently exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Ocean, which is a rift in the Pacific Ocean where most earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the world.
More than 300 people were killed in a 5.6-magnitude earthquake that struck West Java last November.
