The mega project has a capacity of 1,075 megawatts, and can generate about 5 terawatt-hours of electricity, enough to supply about 1.6 million homes annually, which is equivalent to about two-thirds of Scottish homes, according to data obtained by the Energy Platform. The project will prevent the release of more than two million tons of carbon dioxide annually, by generating electricity from clean sources other than fossil fuels. According to the press release published by the company on its official website, the project is located in the North Sea, about 27 kilometers off the coast of the Scottish Angus region.
Total Energy owns 51% of SeaGreen Farm, while SSE Renewables owns the other 49%.
Total Energy and its partner SSE Renewables began construction of Scotland's largest offshore wind farm in June 2020, at a total cost of $4 billion.
Total Energy will market its share of production through a combination of long-term fixed-price contracts, including a 15-year CFD from the UK Government, a private 15-year CFD with SSE Group and short-term sales in Wholesale market. CFDs include that companies working in offshore wind energy projects obtain fixed prices for selling electricity over a period of 15 years, and if the market price falls below the so-called execution price; The government compensates the difference, and if the opposite happens; Companies must return the money to the government.
“SeaGreen” is the largest offshore wind farm in operation within Total Energy’s global projects, and it also has the deepest installed base in the world. It extends to about 60 meters below sea level.
Total Energy President Patrick Pouyanné praised the operation of the Sea Green offshore wind farm in the North Sea, according to his statements in the press release, a copy of which was obtained by the energy platform.

Total Energy seeks to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, by participating in renewable energy projects to provide its consumers with a stable and clean electricity supply. In 2022, the company succeeded in generating more than 33 terawatt-hours of electricity, and the total installed capacity for generating electricity from renewable sources reached 17 gigawatts.
