Arab Weather - Basra International Airport in Iraq recorded a temperature of 50.3 degrees Celsius on Saturday, July 12, 2025, making it the first Arab city to break the 50-degree Celsius barrier this summer.
This is the first time temperatures of this level have been recorded in the region since the beginning of summer 2025, reflecting the intense heat affecting large parts of Iraq and the Gulf states.
This dramatic rise in temperature coincided with the influence of an extremely hot air mass, which pushed temperatures to scorching levels, particularly in southern Iraq, where temperatures in several Iraqi cities, such as Nasiriyah, Amara, and Tikrit, approached the 50-degree mark, as well as areas in Kuwait and Ahvaz, Iran.
According to weather indicators, the extremely hot weather is expected to continue over the coming days, with other regions likely to record similar or even higher temperatures, particularly in the interior regions of Iraq, Kuwait, and southern Iran.
