The COP27 climate conference kicks off in Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday

Weather of Arabia - The activities of the United Nations Climate Change Conference "COP27" will start today, Sunday, in the coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh in the governorate of South Sinai, east of Egypt, with wide international participation, and will continue until the 18th of this month.

On Saturday, the media committee of the conference issued a statement explaining that "the conference includes 3 main events."

According to the committee's statement, "the first (event) is the opening of the conference on Sunday at 10:00 am (8:00 GMT), and the second is the opening of the Leaders Summit tomorrow, Monday, at 12:00 pm (10:00 GMT)."

As for the third event, it is represented, according to the statement, "the opening of the high-level segment of the conference on November 15th."

And the committee indicated in its statement that "a procedural session will be held on Sunday, in which the President of the COP26 Climate Conference, Alok Sharma (Britain), will speak."

After that, a ceremony will be held to hand over the presidency of the conference from Sharma to Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, in his capacity as the head of COP27, according to the committee.

The committee stated that, "Speaking during the procedural session will also be Simon Steele, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and Hosung Lee, Chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee on Climate Change."

And she added, "The presidential part of the summit, which will be held on Monday (November 7), will include three high-level round tables, where the participating leaders will deliver speeches on their countries' efforts to confront the repercussions of climate change."

And the committee added, "It will also hold 3 round tables for the leaders participating in the conference on November 8."

On Thursday, Egypt announced "raising the highest levels of caution, security vigilance and insurance" in all parts of it in preparation for the conference, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.

On Sunday, the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference kicks off in Sharm el-Sheikh, building on the results of the previous conference in Glasgow, Britain, last year.

Actions are expected to be taken during the conference on a range of climate issues, including: urgently reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building resilience, adapting to the inevitable effects of climate change, and fulfilling commitments to finance climate action from developed countries to developing countries.
