Arab Weather - The latest weather maps indicate the formation of the first deep low pressure system in the eastern Mediterranean basin in the first days of October. This comes amid forecasts that a cold air mass will push toward southern Europe and the Balkan countries, reaching the warm waters of the eastern Mediterranean basin.
Weather forecasters at Arab Weather said that maps specializing in monitoring the movement of the jet stream indicate that the jet stream will undulate more towards the south in the first days of next October. This will lead to very cold winds gradually rushing towards the south of the European continent and the Balkan countries in the first days of October through the gateway to Eastern Europe. As the cold winds continue to flow towards the waters of the eastern Mediterranean basin, a deep air depression will form to the west of Greece on October 2nd, the first of its kind this season in the eastern Mediterranean basin.
According to initial forecasts, as cold winds continue to flow towards the Balkan countries, a deep low pressure system with temperatures reaching 1,000 hectopascals is expected to form west of Greece on Thursday, accompanied by strong winds and a cold front with heavy rain. It is expected to affect Greece with heavy thunderstorms and strong winds.
Weather forecasts indicate that the low pressure system will directly impact Greece, extending its reach to parts of Libya's coastline late Thursday. As it continues its eastward and northeastward movement, it will affect large parts of southeastern Europe, as well as western Turkey.
Large areas of southeastern Europe are expected to witness strong winds and heavy to very heavy rains starting Friday, raising the risk of flash floods in those areas.
Some mountainous areas in southeastern Europe are also expected to experience snowfall due to very cold winds accompanying the low pressure system at the end of next week.
Arab Weather experts said that forecasts indicate that the low pressure system will move away and move northeast before approaching the Levant, so that the effects of the low pressure system are not expected to affect any of the Levant countries so far. On the contrary, due to the axis of the cold air mass pushing towards the Balkan countries, this will lead to the penetration of warm air currents towards the Levant, and thus temperatures may rise again with the weekend and the beginning of next week.
