ArabiaWeather - Annual climate change conferences are an important political and technical tool to contribute to combating climate change at the national and international levels. The next conference (COP-28) will be organized in the United Arab Emirates next November, with the aim of stimulating rapid action to confront local climate challenges.

A letter was recently issued by the Chairman of the 28th session of the Climate Summit , Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, outlining the vision and objectives of the conference, including calling on industrialized countries to increase funding for developing countries to confront climate change.

This message comes in the middle of implementing the Paris Agreement until 2030 , as it includes four important invitations to the countries participating in the summit, such as:

  • Accelerating the transition to clean energy
  • Reducing emissions before 2030
  • Fulfilling previous promises and establishing a framework for a new financing deal
  • Paying attention to the environment and communities vulnerable to climate impacts, and enhancing international cooperation.

The Jordanian Minister of Environment, Dr. Muawiyah Al-Radaydeh , confirms the support of the Kingdom of Jordan for the presidency of the conference and the importance of the message in encouraging countries to submit updated or new national contributions before September to help strengthen global cooperation in the field of climate change. The presidency of the conference announces its program and the agenda of the summit, which focuses on key axes. Such as linking health and relief with recovery, peace, finance and trade with gender, accountability, energy and industry with just transition.

The Minister of the Environment, Dr. Muawiyah Al-Radaida, pointed out the importance of prior disclosure of the vision and program of the COP-28 Conference of the Parties, and this shows the interest of the conference presidency in the priorities of climate action at the international and regional levels.

During the review of the thematic program of the conference, Al-Radaida emphasized the comprehensive vision, its interest in negotiations, and its role in shaping the conference’s outcomes. These conferences aim to support the obligations of industrialized countries under the Framework Agreement and the Paris Agreement and increase confidence between developed and developing countries.

Al-Radaydeh affirmed the directive of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan towards achieving the vision of the mission and providing international financing to the developing countries of the world to achieve their climate commitments. This mission represents a coordinated action plan that is easy to implement and carries great ambition in the field of climate change.

The Minister added that the message’s inclusion of the important roles of the women, youth and indigenous peoples sectors is consistent with climate action trends related to the roles of these groups in promoting climate action and implementing national commitments towards the international community.
