Arab Weather - The latest weather updates processed in Arab Weather indicate an increase in the chances of thunderstorms and an increase in their intensity in the southern parts of the Arabian Peninsula during this week, as the so-called eastern wave is active during this period (within the extension of the monsoon depression), which means the movement of winds in the high layers from the east towards the west, and is accompanied by the presence of large amounts of humidity and high thermal convection in the various active layers of the atmosphere, as some global centers have already begun to sense the deepening of an eastern wave towards the southern atmosphere of the Arabian Peninsula.
In detail, an upper wave (a low pressure system in the upper atmosphere) is expected to push towards the southern parts of the Arabian Peninsula, coinciding with the deepening of the thermal low pressure system located in the southeast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This will cause a significant deviation of the tropical dividing line over the southern Arabian Peninsula, pushing large amounts of tropical moisture into the various layers of the atmosphere. This will lead to the emergence of a state of atmospheric instability accompanied by thunderstorms in many regions.
Weather maps indicate that the base of the subtropical high pressure system is shifting toward the north of the Arabian Peninsula, which means that dry northerly winds are being limited. Meanwhile, moist monsoon winds from the south find an easier path to spread.
Unstable weather conditions are expected to develop as a result of the extension of the eastern wave across several Arab countries, leading to an increasing frequency of thunderstorms in several regions. These thunderstorms will be accompanied by heavy rains, dense and accumulated hail, and sudden strong winds that will cause sandstorms.
Thunderstorms are affecting several regions of the Sultanate of Oman, particularly the Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates, as well as the Al Hajar Mountains and some coastal areas overlooking the Arabian Sea. Large areas of Yemen, particularly the western highlands, including the capital, Sana'a, as well as parts of the coasts overlooking the Arabian Sea and the Red Sea, are also affected by these weather disturbances.
In Saudi Arabia, cumulus clouds are expected to increase over the far southwestern highlands of the Kingdom, including the highlands of Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha. They are likely to extend to the highlands of the Makkah region, particularly Taif. Thunderstorms will be most intense over the highlands of Jazan and Asir, and some thunderstorms are also likely to extend to parts of the adjacent coasts.
Thunderstorms are also likely to extend to some scattered areas of the UAE, especially the eastern and southern regions, especially towards the end of the week.
Forecasts also indicate the possibility of rare rainfall extending to parts of the Rub' al Khali desert during the tropical wave's influence, as a result of widespread moisture inflow from the Arabian Sea.
The Arab Weather Center recommends monitoring weather updates on a regular basis, taking precautions in sloping areas and flood-prone valleys, and avoiding crossing flowing valleys. It also recommends being aware of the dangers of heavy dust and sandstorms affecting desert roads.
And God knows best.
