Warning of 3 extreme weather phenomena in eastern Jordan today

Arab Weather - The Kingdom will be affected, God willing, by a state of atmospheric instability today, Monday, April 27, 2026. This instability is characterized by the possibility of thunderstorms forming in geographically dispersed areas, meaning that parts of a governorate or region will experience thunderstorms while other parts remain dry. This is a characteristic of atmospheric instability, as it is marked by randomness in geographical and temporal distribution, in addition to its suddenness, with thunderstorms developing rapidly and then dissipating within a short time.

We would like to point out that the eastern desert regions will be the most affected by this situation during the afternoon and evening hours of today, as strong thunderclouds are expected to form, especially in the far east of the Kingdom, particularly near the Jordanian-Iraqi border and the international road leading to Iraq (Baghdad International Road).

In those areas, unstable weather conditions are expected to lead to:

* Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
* Hail fell in large sizes
* Strong winds and the formation of wall-like sandstorms are causing a significant decrease or complete loss of horizontal visibility.
Increased risk of flash floods and overflowing wadis

We recommend the following:

* Take shelter inside buildings during thunderstorms, especially in the eastern part of the Kingdom.
* Avoid grazing in the coming hours and place livestock in safe places to protect them from hail, lightning, or flash floods.
* Drivers on external and international roads should be aware of slippery conditions, dust, and flash floods.
