Weather of Arabia - Google Earth released some time ago a feature that shows users the damages of climate change that have become evident on Earth, and the feature relies on the three-dimensional time-lapse technology to preview changes on the planet from 1984 to 2022, which reveals the effects Destructive climate change is shaping the planet's geography.
To access the feature, you must launch Google Earth, and then click or tap on the Voyager tab.
Search for a place of interest or check out one of five guided tours from Google about forest change, urban growth and warming, mining and renewables, and the beauty of the Earth.
To create the 3D time-lapse images for Google Earth, the company says it used more than 24 million satellite images taken from 1984 to 2020 to create 4.4 terapixel video (one terapixel is one million megapixels).
The company worked with NASA, the USGS, the European Commission, and the European Space Agency (ESA) to collect the data used in the time lapse.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that Google has used time-lapse technology, as it released in May 2013 the time-lapse feature that displays two-dimensional images of the Earth from 1984 to 2012, and made a major update to that feature in November 2016 .
Google's special feature is a 3D time-lapse view of the Earth's geological changes, allowing a look at the changes in the Earth in greater detail.
Google has also released 800 time-lapse videos of different regions around the planet as free add-ons.
The company aims to use it by educators, nonprofits, policy makers, and others to show how Earth's geography has changed over time.
