When does the Eid al-Fitr holiday start and end in Jordan?

Weather of Arabia - On March 17, 2024, Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh issued a statement specifying the Eid Al-Fitr holiday.

When does the Eid al-Fitr holiday start and end in Jordan?

Answer: The communication stated that all ministries, official departments, institutions, public bodies, official universities, municipalities, joint services councils, the Greater Amman Municipality, and companies wholly owned by the government will be suspended, starting from Tuesday morning, corresponding to the ninth of April, 2024, until the evening of Friday, corresponding to the twelfth of that month, with Excluding ministries and official departments whose work nature requires otherwise.

The ninth of April marks the twenty-ninth of the holy month of Ramadan , and it is astronomically expected that the number of days of the holy month for this year will be 29 days, as the holy month began on Tuesday, corresponding to the twelfth of March.

In a related context, the President of the Jordanian Astronomical Society, Dr. Ammar Al-Sakkji, confirmed that the possibility of observing the Shawwal crescent on the ninth of next April is possible, as astronomical calculations indicate that it is possible on the evening of Tuesday, April 9 , and that the crescent will be clearly visible on the western horizon of Jordan, Which gives citizens the opportunity to see it. As for the evening of Monday, April 8 , astronomical calculations confirm that “vision is impossible” due to the crescent being below the horizon after sunset, and it cannot be observed.
