A 5.2 magnitude earthquake strikes western Türkiye and shakes Istanbul

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck western Türkiye early Saturday, with its epicenter about 4 kilometers from the town of Sindirci in Balıkesir province, according to preliminary data from the Kandilli Observatory.

The earthquake occurred at 00:24:37 local time on January 24, 2026, at a depth of 10 kilometers. Its epicenter was located near Işıklar, a district of the town of Sındırcı.

The earthquake was felt by residents of major cities in the region, including Istanbul and Izmir, and so far there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries in the minutes following the earthquake.
