Weather of Arabia - Sinan Khalaf - Once again, the seasonal dust in southwest Saudi Arabia is at the forefront of weather events in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and it is expected, God willing, that the influence of the active seasonal winds locally known as the “dust season” will be renewed on the coastal areas south of the Red Sea, and it is concentrated on the coastal road between Jazan, Al-Laith, Al-Qunfudhah and the interior parts thereof, which will significantly decrease the extent of horizontal visibility, provided that it will be repeated almost daily in the coming days.
Al-Ghubra season. This name is given by the local population in the southwestern coasts of the Kingdom to the active monsoon winds, which raise dust waves on the southwestern coasts of Saudi Arabia, including the governorates of Al-Laith and Al-Qunfudhah and extending to the coasts of Jazan.
Al-Ghubra season is due to the deepening of the Sudan depression, as it pushes moderate to brisk southwesterly winds, raises dust in Sudan and rushes part of it, especially to the heights of Jazan and Asir and sometimes Al-Baha and Taif, coinciding with the activity of wind movement on the coasts of the Red Sea, which raises dust locally on coastal roads .
Climatically, the seasonal dust season usually begins with late June and continues until mid-August, and waves on dust reduce horizontal visibility, which negatively affects respiratory patients.
