Winter in countries in the northern hemisphere (north of the equator) lasts 89 days , beginning on the day of the winter solstice (December 21 or 22) and ending on the vernal equinox (March 20).
As for countries located in the southern hemisphere (south of the equator) it extends for 94 days , starting on the day of the winter solstice (June 20 or 21) and ending on the day of the spring equinox (December 22 or 23).
